"Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You cannot get there by bus, only by hard work, risking and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you'll discover will be wonderful: Yourself." - Alan Alda
Do you find yourself saying, "...I'm just not creative."? If so, It's time to change that!
Creativity isn't about meeting other people's expectations or following a rule book or well traveled path. It is expression. It is authentic. It is boundless. It is freedom. It is a part of YOU!
We were all born with the ability to be and think creatively. As children, we did all kind of creative things: built forts, made up stories, played with Barbies, drew pictures, painted, used scotch tape in every possible way (well, that one may have just been me). We created so many wonderflul things. We experimented. We were fearless and adventurous.
Why did it seem so easy then? Because we believed we could do it. We believed in ourselves. We didn't hold back.
So many adults now feel like they aren't creative enough. What happened? Wait, let's rewind that. ...feel they aren't creative enough. Huh? Enough for what? Enough for who?
Enough to endure judgement. Enough to brave the unknown without failure. Enough to dare.
We spent years being told to color inside the lines, be careful, dont make waves, follow the instructions. We were taught to do as we were told. When it comes to manners, passing tests, and assembling furniture, yes, those statements have value. However, when it comes to problem solving, creativity, and innovation, those statements shut us down. They keep us from speaking out, suggesting new approaches, and living our most creative life.
Life comes with a lot of rules. They fence us in with boundaries and limitations. They minimize the emotion. Creativity gives way to compliance and eventually, our creativity goes into hibernation from lack of use. However, just like a muscle in your body, you can re-strengthen it. Wake it up. Empower it.
I am here to help you on that journey.
